I was visiting a site dedicated to bad art recently (see BADART in links - very funny), which might be defined as good intentions somehow gone horribly awry. I'm sure some of you, after looking at my painting galleries, would like to nominate some or all of my paintings! (I don't make pretension of having great technical painting skills. However, I still manage to create vivid, affecting pictures once in a while. Puking up your unconscious, and interpreting it with some degree of accuracy, is a noteworthy skill unto itself). There are of course times when things just don't "happen" for me when I paint. My visit to the BADART site reminded me of that. It also reminded me that, even though painting has been important to me and has helped me process some pretty intense experiences, it is good to try not to take it TOO seriously. I wouldn't want to end up one of those artists who seem like they're trying to work the "MYSTICAL" mojo a bit too hard. So, I decided to put up a small gallery of some of my favorite failures. These are the kind of paintings that make me scratch my head and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Ones that went so horribly wrong that they couldn't be fixed. Bon apetit! |
